India's Leading electric tipper brand puts a 33 cu.m, 385 kWh fleet into daily coal transportation with a leading haulage contractor at one of the country's largest opencast coal mines.
Coimbatore, 28 September 2026 - Propel EV, the electric mobility division of Propel Industries and India's No. 1 electric tipper brand, has deployed seven 470 HEV electric trucks with a leading coal-haulage contractor at one of India's largest opencast coal mines in Chhattisgarh. The trucks are in daily operation, moving coal on continuous haul cycles in one of the most demanding applications in Indian mining.
Why Electric - and Why Coal
Coal haulage runs round the clock: heavy loads, long haul cycles, steep ramps and abrasive dust. It is also where diesel hurts most. Engines run continuously, fuel is the largest single operating cost, and every truck adds exhaust to the pit.
The 470 HEV changes that equation. Its electric powertrain has no engine, no exhaust after-treatment and far fewer moving parts - the operating economics that come with less to burn, less to service and less time off the haul road. It delivers full torque from standstill, so a loaded truck pulls away and climbs without waiting for an engine to build power. And it removes diesel exhaust from the working face altogether: around 120 tonnes of CO₂ a year per truck against an equivalent diesel tipper.

Built around the load : The 33 cu.m U-type coal body gives the 470 HEV the highest load-body capacity in its class, so every cycle moves more coal. Beneath it, the 8×4 heavy-duty platform — indigenously designed chassis, single-piece cast axle housings, heavy-duty hub-reduction axles and bi-metal brake drums — is built for the constant loading, ramps and downhill braking of an opencast mine, with more than 30% gradeability.
Energy for the full shift : The 385 kWh pack, the larger of the two battery options on the 470 HEV, carries the energy for continuous haul cycles, and CCS2 fast charging takes it from 0 to 100% in about 60 minutes with a suitable charger. The cells are multi-composite lithium-ion with indigenous ODFC cooling — up to 2X the life of conventional LFP batteries — protected by built-in fire detection and suppression specific to the battery system, and backed by a 5-year / 5,000-cycle battery warranty.
Power where it matters : The 350 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor delivers 2,000 Nm of peak torque smoothly and instantly, with regenerative braking, hill start aid and a fail-safe parking brake for the ramps. In the cabin, a smart interactive touchscreen HMI, ergonomic controls and air-suspended seats keep drivers productive through long shifts.
